Big Relief for Car Owners! No More KYV for FASTag from Feb 2026 — Here’s What Changes

FASTag Made Easier! No KYV Hassle from Feb 1

NHAI Overhauls FASTag Rules — KYV Requirement Scrapped for New Car FASTags

In a major move to simplify toll payments and reduce hassles for motorists, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a significant change to the FASTag issuance process. From February 1, 2026, new FASTags issued for cars, jeeps and vans will no longer require the routine Know Your Vehicle (KYV) verification after activation — a step that often caused delays and complaints among users.

Under the revised framework, authorities will complete vehicle verification before activating the FASTag, replacing the earlier post-activation checks. Issuing banks must now validate vehicle details with the VAHAN database and, where necessary, through the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) before enabling the FASTag for use. This change effectively places responsibility on banks to ensure accuracy upfront, eliminating repeated follow-ups for vehicle owners.

For motorists who already have FASTags linked to their cars, the routine KYV step will no longer be pushed unless specific issues arise — such as an incorrect tag issuance, suspected misuse, or a complaint about tag performance. In the absence of such problems, existing FASTags will continue to function normally without extra verification.

The decision comes after widespread feedback that post-activation KYV checks were often burdensome, even when all vehicle documentation was in order. By streamlining the process and tightening pre-activation checks, NHAI aims to make the FASTag experience smoother and more user-friendly for millions of highway users across India.
