Tirupati: In a stirring address underscoring the evolving role of legal professionals, Chief Justice of India Justice D Y Chandrachud lauded advocates as “social engineers” during a special program hosted by the Law Department of SV University. The event commemorated a significant milestone – the completion of a decade for the university’s five-year law course.

As a distinguished guest at the program, Justice Chandrachud reflected on the shifting dynamics surrounding career choices, recounting a time when medicine and engineering held sway as top preferences among parents. However, he noted a remarkable transformation in recent years, with the legal profession gaining prominence and law courses emerging as a favored pursuit among aspiring students.

Expressing delight over this paradigm shift, Justice Chandrachud highlighted the growing representation of women in the legal fraternity. Citing statistics, he revealed that an impressive 37% of enrolled advocates at the district level are women, signaling a positive trend towards gender inclusivity within the legal sphere.

The Chief Justice’s remarks not only underscored the vital societal role played by advocates but also celebrated the diversification of the legal profession, welcoming a broader spectrum of talent and perspectives into the fold. With his words resonating with attendees, the event served as a platform to reaffirm the significance of legal education in shaping a more just and equitable society.
