Amaravati: Former Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has alleged that the ruling YSRCP is deliberately obstructing investments from coming to the capital city of Amaravati. Speaking at a media conference held at NTR Bhavan in Amaravati, Reddy claimed that Vaikapa leaders are envious of the ongoing development activities in the region.
Reddy emphasized Amaravati’s potential as a thriving capital, noting that the city is situated 35 meters above sea level, which makes it a prime location for development. “Vaikapa leaders cannot bear to see the capital’s progress,” he remarked, accusing them of hindering growth for political reasons.
Corruption Allegations Against YSRCPLeaders
The former minister also took aim at former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy, describing Nellore as the “third KGF” (Kolar Gold Fields), alluding to widespread corruption in the region. Reddy issued a stern warning, stating that any further derogatory comments about former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu from Kakani would not be tolerated. He hinted at imminent legal action against Kakani’s alleged corrupt practices.
Reddy further criticized the leadership of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying that dissatisfaction with Jagan’s governance has led many leaders to leave the party. “If this continues, the only people left in YSRCP will be Jagan and his wife, Bharti,” he quipped.
Flood Prevention and Encroachment Issues
Addressing the issue of flood prevention, Somireddy highlighted efforts to prevent inundation in the Amaravati-Vijayawada region caused by the Budameru flood channel. He stated that encroachments had been identified along a 36.25 km stretch from Veligeru Head Regulator to Kolleru.
“Most of these encroachments are along the Budameru Canal, especially between Vidyadharapuram and Gunadala, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation,” he explained. Reddy revealed that over 3,051 acres of land have been encroached upon, and authorities are planning to increase the capacity of the canals at Keesarapally and Enikepadu to mitigate future flooding risks.
The former minister reassured the public that steps will be taken soon to address these encroachments and enhance flood prevention infrastructure in the area. “We will begin operations to expand canal capacity and protect vulnerable areas from floods,” Reddy concluded.
