Amaravati: Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, former MLA of Palnadu district Macharla and Vaikapa candidate in the recent elections, was arrested by police on Wednesday evening. This came just an hour after the High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail petitions.
Pinnelli faces multiple charges related to incidents on the polling day of the general elections. The Rentakhintala police registered a case against him for destroying an EVM at the Palvaigate polling station and attacking a TDP polling agent who tried to stop him. Additionally, Karampudi police filed cases against Pinnelli, his younger brother, and followers for creating chaos and attacking a CI the day after polling. Pinnelli is the prime accused in all four cases.
The High Court initially granted interim protection from arrest on May 28, extending it three times. Pinnelli had been reporting to the SP’s office daily to sign in compliance with the court orders. However, with the High Court’s recent cancellation of his bail petitions, Narasa Raopet Rural CI Mallikarjun arrested Pinnelli at his villa in Ravipadu, Narasa Raopet mandal.
Interestingly, Pinnelli was transported to the SP office in his own vehicle instead of a police vehicle, leading to criticism. Under the supervision of Gurujala DSP Srinivasa Rao and Karampudi CI Srinivasa Rao, he was taken to Narasa Raopet Government Main Area Hospital for medical tests before being transported to Macherla Court via Gurjala amidst heavy security.
