Delhi: Nidhi Tewari, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Appointments Committee of the Central Cabinet has officially approved her appointment, which was later confirmed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Who is Nidhi Tewari?
Nidhi Tewari hails from Mehmurganj, Varanasi, and secured the 96th rank in the civil services exam. She belongs to the 2014 batch of the IFS. Prior to her new role, she served as Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes) in Varanasi. In January 2023, she joined the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Deputy Secretary, having previously worked as an Under Secretary in 2022.
Before her tenure in the PMO, Nidhi Tewari was part of the Ministry of External Affairs, where she handled disarmament and international security affairs. Her expertise in international relations and foreign policy played a pivotal role in her promotion.
Nidhi’s New Role
Nidhi will be taking up her new responsibilities as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister soon. She will be directly involved in critical foreign and security policy issues, working closely with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
The DoPT has announced that formal instructions regarding her new role will be issued shortly.
