Delhi: In a significant development, India and the United States have reached an agreement on the framework for future trade negotiations, marking a crucial step toward finalizing a bilateral trade agreement. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that the upcoming discussions will address longstanding imbalances in the trade relationship.

In a press release issued by the Office of the US Trade Representative, Greer emphasized that there have been many flaws in the US-India trade ties so far. He highlighted the ongoing talks with India to open new markets for American goods and to eliminate unfair trade practices that adversely affect American workers.

This announcement came following meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Senator JD Vance. Leaders from both nations expressed satisfaction with the progress of negotiations and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in sectors such as energy, strategic technologies, and defense. Modi also conveyed his eagerness to welcome US President Donald Trump during his planned visit to India later this year.

While many countries are contemplating retaliatory measures against US-imposed tariffs, India is choosing a different path by actively seeking a trade agreement based on mutual benefits. During Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to the US, both countries agreed to move toward an agreement that balances interests on both sides.

Officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs indicated that India is also exploring increased imports of American oil and gas to maintain a healthier trade balance. With discussions gaining momentum, an official announcement regarding the finalization of the trade agreement could be expected soon.
