Hyderabad: In a recent address in Hyderabad, Minister of Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao reiterated the Congress government’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of agriculture in the state. Despite facing significant financial constraints inherited from the previous administration, Rao emphasized that the welfare of farmers remains the top priority.

Highlighting the dire financial situation left by the preceding government’s policies, Rao assured farmers that steps are being taken to address their concerns. Specifically, he announced plans for a loan waiver totaling Rs. 2 lakh, with procedures currently underway to facilitate its implementation.

Providing an update on the disbursement of Rythu Bandhu funds for the 2023-24 Yasangi season, Rao revealed that over 64 lakh farmers have already received financial support. Notably, funds have been credited to the bank accounts of approximately 92.68 percent of eligible farmers, showcasing the government’s commitment to efficient and transparent distribution mechanisms.

Addressing criticism from opposition leaders, Rao condemned what he termed as “crocodile tears” from those who neglected farmers during their tenure in power. He refuted claims of selective loan waivers and underscored the government’s efforts to prioritize farmer welfare, including infrastructure development such as the outer ring road.

Furthermore, Rao emphasized the government’s collaborative approach with regulatory bodies like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and banks to fulfill the loan waiver promise outlined in the party’s manifesto. He urged against politicizing the issue of poverty and assured stakeholders of the government’s steadfast dedication to uplifting the agricultural sector.
