Rahul Gandhi, the Indian National Congress (INC) chief, on the 8th of February, conducted an All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, 2019.

The AICC officials and the newly appointed general secretaries of Uttar Pradesh East and Uttar Pradesh West, Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia, were present at the meeting.

Rahul Gandhi spoke about the strategies for the upcoming elections and urged the AICC members to select fresh faces and finalise the candidates for the upcoming elections.

Rahul Gandhi addressed the media and said, “We discussed the process of selection of candidates, campaign strategy and alliances, wherever necessary. All our general secretaries and in charges have given their views about their respective states. Finally, we have given an ultimatum that selection of candidates should be completed this month itself.”

He also spoke to the new general secretaries and told them not to take any pressure for the 2019 elections, but to formulate a strategy for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, 2022. Gandhi said, he “does not expect miracles in two months.”

K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary in charge of the AICC, spoke about the future plans of the INC and said, “They (Rahul, Priyanka and Jyotiraditya) will go in a procession from the airport to the Party office in Lucknow. The general secretaries will interact with Congress leaders and workers of Uttar Pradesh from February 12 at the Party office in Lucknow.”

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia are expected to stay in Lucknow till the 14th of February.
