The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 21st of January, cancelled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in West Bengal, which was scheduled on the 8th of February.

Dilip Ghosh, the BJP President of West Bengal, said, “Modi’s scheduled rally at the Brigade Parade Grounds on 8 February has been cancelled and, instead, he will be addressing a rally at Asansol – represented by party MP Babul Supriyo – on the same day.” He further added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address three rallies in West Bengal. On 28 January, he will address a rally at Thakurnagar in Bongaon. On 2 February, he will address a rally at Siliguri in north Bengal.”

Speaking about the reason behind cancelling the rally scheduled to be held at the Brigade Parade Ground, Mr. Ghosh said, the arrangements for such a massive rally with a huge crowd are not possible at such short notice. However, the Party decided to reschedule the rally.

Amit Shah, the BJP President, on the 22nd of January, will address a public rally in Malda district, West Bengal. Later, on the 23rd of January, Mr. Shah is scheduled to attend two other rallies in Jhargram and Suri of Birbhum district.

The rallies are a part of the campaign of the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP will contest 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, out of which, the Party has a target of winning a minimum of 22 seats.
