Madhya Pradesh (MP) is conducting its Vidhan Sabha elections, today, for 230 constituency seats.
Of the 230 constituencies, 227 of them will hold the polls from 8:00 A.M., to 5:00 P.M. The Naxal affected areas of Balaghat district are conducting polls from 7:00 A.M., to 3:00 P.M., for the Lanji, Paraswada and Baihar constituencies.
A total of 2,899 candidates are taking part in the MP elections. Out of the 2,899 candidates, 1,805 candidates are representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, whereas 1,094 are independent candidates.
The candidates contesting from the Congress are Arun Yadav (Budhni constituency,) Praveen Pathak (Gwalior South,) Raghuraj Singh Kansana (Morena,) Ashwin Joshi (Indore 3) and Suresh Pachouri (Bhojpur.)
The candidates representing the BJP are Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Budhni constituency,) Narayan Singh Kushwah (Gwalior South,) Rustam Singh (Morena,) Akash Kailash Vijayvargiya (Indore 3) and Surendra Patwa (Bhojpur.)
The major parties, the BJP and the Congress, are contesting 230 seats, out of which 35 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 47 for Scheduled Tribes (ST.)
Approximately 5.4 crore people are expected to vote, out of which 2.63 crores are male, 2.41 crores are female and 1,410 individuals belong to the third gender.

A total of 6.32 % voters turned up for voting till 9:00 A.M. Many districts complained of slow Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and more than 70 EVMs were replaced in 11 districts to conduct the polls smoothly.
The results of the Madhya Pradesh elections will be declared on the 11th of December.
