Mangalagiri: Shaikh Sadia Almas from Mangalagiri made her mark on the global stage by securing a gold medal in the World Sub-Junior, Junior Powerlifting Championship. Competing in the junior girls’ 57 kg category, she clinched the top spot on Thursday in the ongoing championship in Malta.

Despite a modest performance in the squat category, where she lifted 190 kg, Sadia excelled in the BenchS event, lifting 97.5 kg. She secured second place in the deadlift with a lift of 175 kg. Her combined total of 462.5 kg was enough to earn her the prestigious gold medal, bringing pride to her hometown and state.

Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh, expressed his delight over Sadia’s remarkable achievement. In a congratulatory message posted on social media platform ‘X’, he praised her for putting Mangalagiri on the world map and expressed hopes for her to win more medals in the future.
