Amaravati: Telugu Desam National General Secretary Nara Lokesh has been upgraded to Z category security by the Union Home Ministry, with security provisioned by CRPF (VIP Wing) forces.
The decision comes following recommendations from the Security Review Committee post the October 2016 AOB encounter, initially proposing Z category security for Lokesh.
However, upon the change in state government, his security was downgraded to Y category, disregarding the committee’s recommendations.
Lokesh’s security team has repeatedly petitioned both central and state governments, along with the governor, on 14 occasions for adequate security measures.
The state government’s handling of security concerns has been flagged to the Union Home Ministry multiple times, particularly in light of attacks during the Yuvagalam Padayatra.
Additionally, concerns raised by intelligence agencies regarding Maoist threats were considered before the latest upgrade to Z category security.
