Hyderabad: Phone tapping scandal in the state have taken yet another dramatic turn. Two additional SP cadre officers, Bhupalpally’s additional SP Bujanga Rao and Hyderabad city’s additional DCP Tirupatanna, found themselves behind bars on Saturday.
Their arrests shed light on a web of surveillance activities allegedly orchestrated within the corridors of power.
Both Rao and Tirupatanna, former operatives of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), are accused of playing pivotal roles in monitoring the communications of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his family in the lead-up to the 2023 assembly elections.
These revelations implicate a broader network within the SIB, raising serious questions about the integrity of state intelligence operations.
The saga began with the arrest of SIB’s former cop, Praneeth Rao, as cascade of investigations into the clandestine surveillance operations conducted under his watch. As layers of the scandal are peeled away, the public is left to grapple with the implications of unchecked surveillance and abuse of power.
