Guntur: Borugadda Anil Kumar, a rowdy sheeter and alleged henchman of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, was arrested by the CCS police in Guntur on Wednesday. Kumar, who operated across Amaravati and Pattabhipuram, had been involved in numerous violent acts and atrocities during the last five years of YSRCP’s rule. He had also verbally abused opposition leaders including Chandrababu Naidu, Janasena leader Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh.
After the results of the recent elections were announced, Kumar went into hiding in other states. However, he resurfaced in Guntur just two days ago and was promptly arrested by the authorities. There are several cases registered against him, ranging from land disputes to harassment of women.
Kumar was notorious for using social media and participating in TV debates to insult opposition leaders and their families, often using obscene language, especially targeting women from opposing parties. His criminal activities in Guntur, carried out in the name of YS Jagan, included numerous robberies and other violent acts.
One specific case dates back to 2021, when a businessman named Karlapudi Babu accused Kumar of demanding Rs. 50 lakh, threatening to kill him if the demand was not met. Despite a complaint being lodged at Arundal Peta police station on January 25, 2021, Kumar avoided arrest due to political protection from the ruling YSRCP at the time.
Now that the political tide has shifted, the police have arrested Anil Kumar and taken him to Nallapadu for further interrogation regarding his numerous crimes.
