Kakinada: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan raised serious concerns over the illegal transportation of goods, including public distribution system (PDS) rice, through Kakinada Port, despite existing security measures. During an inspection, he directly questioned Port Officer Dharam Shasta, demanding answers on how contraband bypasses check posts. When the officer mentioned goods arriving with necessary NVC documentation, Pawan Kalyan retorted, “Don’t you know drugs are also being transported?”
The Deputy Chief Minister pointed fingers at Ashi Trading Company, questioning its role and ownership, including individuals like Manasa and Alisha Agarwal. Addressing DSLO MV Prasad and DSP Raghuveer Vishnu, he demanded clarity on how such illegal activities continue under their watch. Highlighting the impact on the poor, he expressed outrage over the smuggling of PDS rice meant for underprivileged families.
Pawan Kalyan also addressed Kakinada City MLA Kondababu, urging him to take a firm stand. “If no action is taken now, it may send a wrong message that we are complicit,” he cautioned. Kondababu defended himself, claiming he had opposed irregularities at Kakinada Port for the past five years, including alleged involvement by companies linked to Dwarampudi’s family.
Pawan insisted on dismantling the entire smuggling network to restore order at the port.
