Hyderabad: Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, stating that the bond between the Congress party and farmers is as inseparable as land and seed.
Addressing the media, he criticized the previous government’s failure to implement the ₹1 lakh loan waiver simultaneously, which resulted in an interest burden of ₹11,145 crore on farmers. He also slammed the delayed implementation of Rythu Bandhu, which failed to assist farmers during the crucial planting and harvesting seasons.
Tummala emphasized that a pro-farmer government is essential for the state’s prosperity. He highlighted that the government has allocated ₹72,000 crore (35% of the state budget) to the agriculture and allied sectors.
He noted that within the first year in power, the Congress government waived farm loans and introduced schemes like Rythu Bharosa and Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa to support farmers. He accused the opposition of spreading false allegations to undermine the government’s welfare initiatives.
