Vizianagaram: Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Gurla village in Vizianagaram district to console families affected by a severe diarrhea outbreak, attributing the crisis to inadequate sanitation measures under the current TDP government. He cited that water chlorination had been neglected for five months, which he believes contributed to the outbreak.
During his visit, YS Jagan announced Rs 2 lakh financial aid from YSRCP to the families of the deceased and demanded clarity from the government regarding its own compensation plan. He criticized discrepancies in reports on the death toll by district officials, expressing concern over the administration’s attempts to downplay the severity of the outbreak.
“Patients are being treated in makeshift facilities, such as schools, due to the lack of proper healthcare infrastructure,” YS Jagan remarked. He questioned the absence of transfer efforts for critically ill patients to Vizianagaram or Visakhapatnam, deeming it an example of the government’s slow response. He noted that schools upgraded through the “Nadu-Nedu” initiative under his leadership had to be repurposed as temporary hospitals due to insufficient healthcare provisions.
YS Jagan also condemned what he called “diversion politics” by the TDP, which he argued shifts focus from pressing issues to personal attacks, involving family members in political discussions. He urged the government to prioritize people’s needs over political agendas, calling for a change in governance approach to prioritize health and sanitation concerns for the welfare of the people.
