Guntur/Badvel: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the families of two women who recently lost their lives following brutal attacks in Guntur and Kadapa districts. During these visits, YS Jagan criticized the TDP government’s failure to address the rising number of crimes against women, demanding swift justice and financial support for the victims’ families. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh from YSRCP for similar cases, urging the state government to match this compensation.

Highlighting an alarming trend, YS Jagan shared that in just four and a half months, the state had recorded 77 rapes, 7 murders, and 5 suicides involving women, with no significant action taken by the TDP government to prevent or address these tragedies. He accused the ruling party of shielding party members involved in such crimes, fostering a culture of impunity and negligence toward justice.

YS Jagan urged the government to provide financial aid to the affected families and called for ministers to personally visit the victims’ families to offer support. He argued that the government’s failure to take decisive action sends a dangerous message that those in power may evade justice, undermining public trust in the state’s ability to ensure safety.

Reflecting on past achievements, YS Jagan recalled the Disha initiative, launched during YSRCP’s previous tenure to enhance women’s safety. The Disha app allowed for immediate police response within minutes of an SOS alert, resulting in over 1.56 crore downloads and the rescue of 31,607 women and girls across Andhra Pradesh. He lamented the decline of the initiative under the current government, attributing it to TDP’s mismanagement and neglect of effective systems designed to protect women.

In closing, he warned that continued inaction and perceived bias by the government could lead to a public backlash. He called on the authorities to address the root causes of these issues and to prioritize victims’ support, emphasizing that the government must restore public confidence by acting responsibly.
