Tadepalli: YSRCP spokesperson Shivashankar has strongly condemned the current government for undermining the village secretariat system, a pivotal initiative launched during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The village secretariat system, designed to bring governance to the grassroots level, provided direct access to government services at citizens’ doorsteps and created 1.36 lakh permanent jobs. This initiative was hailed as a revolutionary step towards Gram Swaraj and became a model for other states to replicate. However, Shivashankar alleged that under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the coalition government is systematically dismantling the system by categorizing and reducing staff positions. He pointed out that the livelihoods of 23,670 secretariat employees are now at risk, which could severely impact the public’s access to essential services.

Shivashankar emphasized that the village secretariat system was a cornerstone of YS Jagan’s administration, which made 545 government services available to the public. The current downsizing of staff threatens the effectiveness of this vital service delivery system, he warned.

Shivashankar called on the government to halt the staff reductions and instead strengthen the system to maintain improved governance and ensure continued access to crucial services for the people of the state.
