Visakhapatnam: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Gudivada Amarnath has strongly criticized the coalition government for systematically removing the name of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) from public institutions and infrastructure. He questioned why the ruling alliance fears YSR’s legacy and accused them of erasing his contributions instead of focusing on election promises.
Amarnath demanded the government and the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) reverse their decision to rename the Visakhapatnam VDCA Cricket Stadium, which was previously named after YSR. He also announced a YSRCP protest on March 20 at 10:00 AM near the stadium’s YSR statue to oppose the move.
He alleged that the government has prioritized eliminating the YSRCP and YSR brand over governance, citing the demolition of YSR statues at Nagarjuna University and Vemuru (Bapatla) and the removal of his name from the Health University, Visakhapatnam stadium, Sitakonda’s YSR viewpoint, YSR district, Rythu Bharosa Kendras, and Tadigadapa Municipality. He also pointed out that even the 150-foot Ambedkar statue in Vijayawada, built under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was stripped of Jagan’s name.
