Six people went missing and eight were killed in the flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in Mizoram. The natural disaster occurred in the Tlabung area of Lunglei district. The National Highway 54, which links Mizoram with Assam has been cut off due to landslides.

Officials said that there were severe landslides in Lunglei, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Serchhip and Champhai districts. More than 350 houses have drowned since the flood started in different parts on Monday.

Zodintluanga, the State Urban Development, and Poverty Alleviation minister said the eight were killed in South Marpara and Phairuangkai villages of Lunglei district and six went missing. Khawthlangtuipui river, that flooded Tlabung town drowned seventy four buildings which led to the evacuation of 84 families living in that area.

Officials said schools were closed in Thenzwal, where six houses were submerged, which forced the residents to evacuate the area. Apart from these, Aizwal has faced severe landslides and incessant rains that blocked several roads.

Power supply lines have gone down and telecommunication came to a halt in the capital city.
