An arrest warrant was made against Arvind Kejriwal after he failed to appear in an Assam court for a defamation case. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for which he was asked to appear in the Assam court.

Arvind tweeted, “Modiji 12 pass hain. Uske baad ki degree farzi hai.” The tweet mentioned PM Modi had only studied till class 12 and all the degrees after that are fake. When the tweet spread, Arvind Kejriwal was asked to appear in person at the Diphu Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Assam.

The complaint was filed by Surjo Rongphar, deputy Chairman of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council accusing Arvind of making defamatory remarks about PM Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications. A case has been registered under section 499,500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code against Kejriwal and the next date of hearing at the court is on May 8th. Bowing to pressure, Arvind Kejriwal deleted the tweet.

Arvind Kejriwal has been in the limelight since February. The minister had hosted two lavish lunches on the 11th and 12th of February. The cost per plate was Rs. 16,025 and Rs. 12,472 respectively. The total bill was more than Rs. 11,00,000 arranged by the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC.)

The Aam Aadmi Party came to power two years ago with a promise of being a party with no VIP culture. Union Minister and senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal told a daily, “This is a criminal waste of government exchequer by the Kejriwal government. I urge the Lt. Governor to order a high level inquiry into violation of financial rules by the Kejriwal government.

No doubt Kejriwal is in big trouble but for now he is answerable to the Court for the statement he made about PM Narendra Modi.
