With less than 24 hour to go for the declaration of the final voltage heavy elections at Uttar Pradesh, the air is filled with campaigns, voter calls and cacophony of politics. But if the predictions of the politic pundits are to be believed, then supposedly Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might be sweeping the elections.
In a tough contest, we saw BJP, Samajwadi Party (SP) aligned with Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) headed by Mayawati, battle it out for the crown. BJP especially had a lot at stake as this would eventually lead for a better grip in Rajya Sabha and also be seen as a referendum for demonetization. BJP will win 190-193 seats in UP with SP-Congress finishing second with 125-128 and BSP a poor third with 65-67.
While asking about the situation of Congress in the elections, Rahul Gandhi declined to comment much, except waving off the expectant exit polls and saying “We will win in Uttar Pradesh. Exit polls projections in Bihar were wrong. We will talk on March 11,” he said outside Parliament. SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav too dismissed exit poll numbers and said the SP-Congress alliance would win a majority.
The hectic five state election process will be finally coming to an end soon with only one seat election left in Uttarakhand, UP and Manipur in their last phases. Aam Aadmi Party is betting on wins in Goa and Punjab while we may see Congress ruling again in Uttarakhand. And looks like it might be an eventful entry for Irom Sharmila in Manipur. In Punjab, AAP and Congress are likely to finish with 53-55 seats each, emphasizing a brutal lose for BJPSAD yielding just 6-7 seats for the ruling. All in all, March 11th is set to be a dramatic end of elections mania.
