Former PCC President Dharmapuri Srinivas Passes Away at 76

Hyderabad: Former PCC President and minister Dharmapuri Srinivas, commonly known as DS, passed away at the age of 76. He breathed his last at 3:30 AM on Saturday at his residence in MLA Colony, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. DS had been ailing for some time and fell critically ill early Saturday morning. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

DS’s eldest son, Sanjay, was overwhelmed with grief upon seeing his father’s body. DS’s younger son, Nizamabad MP Arvind, who was in Delhi for Parliament meetings, returned to Hyderabad promptly. The body was then transported to Nizamabad by ambulance. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructed CS Shantikumari to make arrangements for the official funeral, which is scheduled for Sunday. The CM will also attend the last rites in Nizamabad. As a mark of respect, the Congress flag at Gandhi Bhavan was lowered to half-mast.

DS was a significant figure in the political landscape, known for his role during the Telangana movement. Born on September 27, 1948, in Velpur, Nizamabad district, DS made substantial contributions to the Congress Party. He defeated the Congress twice as PCC President in the undivided state and was recognized as a disciple of Argul Rajaram. His political career included serving as MLA and holding ministerial positions in the cabinets of Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy, Nedurumalli Janardana Reddy, and YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

DS’s legacy is marked by his dedication to public service and his influence in the political arena of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
