While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promoting digital transactions and asking people to get digitally active, Mamata Banerjee slammed Mr. Modi for the accounts of the journalists that have been hacked by a group that calls itself “Legion.”
Agitated with the current situation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted “Seeing reports about hacking journalists’ accounts and bank details. This is not about public interest. It’s about violating privacy.” She believes that the hacking of the social media accounts of the journalists and Rahul Gandhi is done to intimidate the voices of the opposition. The “Legion” group hacked journalist Barkha Dutt’s twitter account and tweeted her email and password from her account.
Indian TV actor and journalist Ravish Kumar, and Vijay Mallya’s account was hacked by the same group. The Legion group also hacked Rahul Gandhi’s twitter account claiming that Rahul has the brains of a 5-year-old. The tweets were disrespectful and were deleted at once.
Hacking of the email and twitter accounts by the Legion group has made the digital campaign by the Modi government more vulnerable. The focus of digital transactions without ensuring online security is a backdrop and people who have been recently introduced will now have less faith in digital transactions.
