Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was arrested by the police when he tried to visit the kin of the deceased in farmers protest in Madhya Pradesh. The police cited Sectiopm 151 of the CrPC (preventive arrest) according to the Indian Penal Code For his arrest.

Gandhi spoke to the media about this incident and sad that he faced a similar incident in Uttar Prades and was not given any reason for the arrest. On Thursday morning, the police had already issue a statement about stopping Rahul Gandhi from visiting violence hit area. Rahul reached Udaipur in Rajasthan before he started for Mandsaur in MP. As he entered the border of the state he was immediately taken into custody.

Rahul said that “Na kisaano ka karza maaf karte hain, na bonus dete; bas goliyaan dete hain (They don’t waive off farmers’ loan. Neither do they give any bonuses. Bullets are what all they give).” He also added that “Narendra Modi can waive loans of the country’s rich but can’t do so for farmers.”

Just before his arrest, Gandhi wrote on Twitter saying, “Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governmenet are doing their best to prevent me from entering MP and meeting the families of the farmers killed in Mandsaur. What law of the land says that it is illegal to stand in solidarity with farmers who were killed simply for demanding what is their right?”
