Hyderabad: The arrest of controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) seems imminent as Ongole police from Andhra Pradesh reached his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. RGV, who is under investigation for a defamation case, failed to appear at Ongole Rural Police Station despite multiple notices, prompting the police to take action.
The case stems from allegations that RGV shared defamatory posts on social media during the promotion of his film Vyuham, targeting TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan. A complaint was lodged by a general secretary of Maddipadu mandal, Prakasam district, leading to a police case.
RGV had earlier approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking protection from arrest, but his plea was rejected. He was initially asked to appear on November 19 but requested additional time via WhatsApp. After failing to attend a rescheduled hearing on November 25, the police arrived at his residence.
Reports suggest that RGV is currently in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, for film-related work. His lawyer claimed RGV is willing to cooperate with the investigation and requested virtual attendance. However, with no compliance to date, the police are pressing ahead with arrest plans.
