As predicted V.K. Sasikala has been appointed as the new general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK.) This decision was taken after Jayalalithaa Jayaram passed away without leaving a successor. Sasikala and Jayalalithaa were close friends, and hence Sasikala is expected to be the head of the party.
According to reports the AIADMK had a general council body meeting today where the resolution to appoint Sasikala Natrajan was passed unanimously. There were a few opposing the decision but the majority voted for her election. The post was vacant from December 5 after Jayalalithaa passed away. The meeting was attended by 2000 AIADMK workers, where Sasikala was not present. This was a result of the clashes that broke out between Rajya Sabha member Sasikala and AIADMK workers and supporters outside the ruling party office.
Sasikala has previously expressed interest for the AIADMK general secretary position. She was expelled from the party but did not resign as Rajya Sabha member.
