Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced plans to construct a new thermal power plant using supercritical technology at Ramagundam, in a joint venture between Singareni Collieries Company Limited and Genco. The State Energy Department has directed Genco to finalize procedures within a week in collaboration with Singareni and to prepare a Comprehensive Project Report (DPR) within a month.
The move comes as Genco’s existing 62.5 MW thermal power plant at Ramagundam has been decommissioned after reaching the end of its operational life. With production halted, the company has continued to pay salaries to its employees, leading to renewed efforts to build a new facility in its place. Ramagundam MLA Makkansingh Raj Thakur recently submitted a petition to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging for the construction of a new thermal power plant, prompting swift action from the CM’s office.
Engineers’ Association Opposes Joint Partnership
However, the Telangana State Electrical Engineers Association has expressed opposition to the joint venture proposal. Association President Ratnakar Rao and Secretary Sadanandam, speaking to the media, revealed that a resolution was passed during a state executive meeting, advocating for Genco to build the plant independently, rather than in partnership with Singareni.
