The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) staged a statewide protest because of the questioning of Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC.)
Notably, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Ms. Sonia Gandhi for the 21st of July questioning, in connection with the National Herald Money Laundering case.
Notably, the ED registered a case against the Gandhis, alleging a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper. In 2012, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) advocate Subramanian Swamy filed a case, claiming that Young Indian Limited (YIL) took over the assets of the defunct print media outlet Associated Journals Limited (AJL) in a “malicious” manner to gain profit and assets worth over Rs. 2,000 crores. As per the registered case, the YIL took a loan of Rs. 50 lakh from the AJL for starting a newspaper, which was illegal, and then took over the press outlet, National Herald, English Newspaper of ALJ.
However, recently the ED reopened the case and questioned INC leader Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge and summoned Mr. Rahul Gandhi and Ms. Sonia Gandhi.
To protest the action of the Enforcement Directorate and claim it to be a political vendetta, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) called for a nationwide protest. Acting upon the directions of the AICC, the TPCC unit led by Mr. A. Revanth Reddy staged a protest and took out a massive rally from the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road to the Enforcement Directorate office in Basheerbagh, Hyderabad.
Later, they staged a dharna at the ED office criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government for being partial and cruel towards the Indian National Congress party.’
Furthermore, the TPCC President Mr. A. Revanth Reddy expressed his concern that cases were being made illegally and Sonia Gandhi was being harassed.
Besides Telangana, INC leaders in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, and other regions of India also carried out rallies and protested outside the ED offices in their respective states.
