Vijayawada: City police have apprehended four members of a hired “supari” gang (contract killers) in connection with a plot to murder landowner Umamaheswara Shastri over a property dispute. Investigations revealed that a supari (contract) of ₹24 lakh was issued to a person from Chilakallu to carry out the murder, allegedly aiming to take control of Shastri’s land.
The Satyanarayanapuram police acted swiftly, detaining the four suspects and beginning their interrogation. According to police sources, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Gautham Reddy is under investigation for allegedly orchestrating the plot. Reddy reportedly accused Shastri of attempting to eliminate him as well. Following Shastri’s complaint, the police registered a case and are thoroughly investigating the motives and involvement of each suspect.
The incident has raised concerns over the rise of violent tactics in land disputes within the region. Authorities have assured strict action against any unlawful attempts to seize property and are committed to maintaining law and order.
