300 years for Tirupati Laddu

In a recent revelation, Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam officials announced that the sacred Tirupati laddu was introduced as offering to the lord and its devotees since August 2, 1715.

On this eve, Mango News would like to offer a bit of insight into the matter. It is popular belief that the pilgrimage to Tirupati is not complete without the ‘laddu Prasad’. The ‘Laddu’ is usually prepared with the sacred ingredients of  flour, sugar, ghee, oil, cardamom and dry fruits. The perfect blend of sweetness in the ‘prasad’ will keep your tongue rolling all over it.

Weight of normal laddu :300 gram.

Price: Rs.25

Subsidized rate (2 laddus for a pilgrim): Rs.10 each.

Laddu budget (2014-15) : Rs.2,401.

Projected income : Rs.190 crore.

TTD have capacity to make and prepare 300,000 laddus a day.

Nearly 620 people, including 270 cooks, work in the laddu and other prasad making units.

Plans are being made to increase the production rate to 800,000 laddus per day.
