Vijayawada: In a major breakthrough, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested VG Venkata Reddy, the former Director of the Mines Department, who was allegedly involved in a massive sand mining scam during the previous YSRCP government.
Venkata Reddy, who had been on the run for several years, was finally apprehended in the Delhi Cantonment. Reports suggest that he had been hiding there for over two months, using his connections in the Indian Coast Guard to gain access to the secure location.
The ACB had been tracking Venkata Reddy’s movements for a long time and had finally zeroed in on his location. A team of ACB officials, along with Delhi police, conducted a raid on the cantonment and nabbed the accused.
Venkata Reddy was brought back to Vijayawada and produced before a local court. He was remanded to judicial custody till October 10. The ACB has accused him of causing a loss of over ₹2,566 crore to the state exchequer through illegal sand mining operations.
The arrest of Venkata Reddy marks a significant step in the ACB’s ongoing investigation into the sand mining scam.
