Rahul Dravid, aka ‘The Wall’, has proved once again that his moral compass points due North impeccably. In a recent press announcement made by the prestigious Bangalore University, it was known that the former champion Cricketer had turned down a degree that was presented to him “in all humility,” because he didn’t think he was deserving enough. Well, how is that for some daily dose of goodness that you were looking for!
The Bangalore University had narrowed it down to the 3 people whom it wanted to confer the honour to and Rahul was chosen by the Karnataka Governor and the University’s Chancellor. The institute wanted to honour Dravid with the degree during its 52nd Annual Convocation Ceremony on January 27. But Dravid being the humble human that he is, declined taking the doctorate as he wanted “to earn the degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field” before he could take on the honour.
Previously also, Rahul had turned down the similar offer by Gulbarga University for the same reasons. Rahul Dravid, born and brought up in Bangalore, studied at St. Joseph’s Boys High School and later took admission in the St Joseph’s College of Commerce for his graduation, followed by an MBA at the St Joseph’s College of Business Administration.
It is great to see people of such stature exuding so much humility. Rahul Dravid, who retired from International Cricket in 2012 and currently coaches the Indian U-19 team, continues to be one of the pillars of strength for Indian cricket and an idol for morals in our midst.
