Amaravathi: The State Government will soon initiate a Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe into major irregularities in the Excise Department during the YSRCP rule. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced the probe while releasing a white paper in the Assembly, revealing that the state suffered a Rs. 18,860.51 crore loss due to changes in liquor policy after YSRCP came to power in 2019.

Naidu criticized the previous government for accepting cash payments for liquor sales and not utilizing online payments. He emphasized that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will assist in the investigation. The CM highlighted the alarming economic condition of the state and the adverse health impacts on citizens due to spurious liquor.

Naidu stated that the financial strain has prevented the presentation of a full-scale budget. The white paper aimed to inform the public about the losses and mismanagement during the past five years. He stressed the need to balance welfare and development to rebuild the state’s economy, which he believes will take 25 years to recover.
