Hyderabad Opens Its First Park For The Differently Abled

On Friday, Hyderabad opened the first park designed specially for the differently abled. It has all the facilities like a sensory theater, counselling center, amphitheater and a therapy block. IT Minister of Telangana K. T. Rama Rao inaugurated the park located at Nalgonda crossroads in Malakpet. The park is spread over 1.03 acres and cost Rs. 1.77 crore to build.

The Government in a press release explained the park was made specially for easy access to the wheelchair bound, blind and hearing impaired people. It further stated they plan to build more parks in all municipal blocks of Telangana.

The park is built with a barrier free path to ensure the safety of the different abled people. This park is divided into two parts one part is for recreation while the other is for therapy. Reports have stated that the park will be taken care of and maintained under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Ayesha Educational Society.

At the same time, an indoor badminton stadium was also inaugurated at Moosarambagh by K. T. Rama Rao. Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali was also present. Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi was present for both the inaugurations. The stadium cost Rs. 1.2 crore out of which Owaisi contributed Rs. 60 lakh from his Member of Parliament’s Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS.) Another Rs. 60 lakh was sanctioned by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

In November last year, the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) took into consideration the problems faced by differently abled people while navigating in urban spaces. Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy said, “We have considered the needs of the differently abled, right from the design stage itself at the ground level, entry/exits, escalators, lifts, fare gates, ticket vending machines, tiling on the platform and the signages for their convenience.”
