Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein Visits India

On Tuesday, the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, welcomed the King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein with a ceremonial reception. His Highness Abdullah said he was truly delighted with the warm welcome he received in India. King Abdullah, accompanied by a business delegation are on a three day visit to deepen the bilateral ties between Jordan and India.

King Abdullah said, “Jordan is situated with the opportunity with not only the free trade agreements for North America but Europe, the Middle East and the new development of our opening relationship with East Africa has opportunities for many people.”

At an event held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, King Abdullah promoted understanding and moderation of Islamic heritage. This event also witnessed the release of the Urdu translation of the book A Thinking Person’s Guide to Islam. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the author of the book is the cousin of His Highness Abdullah and also the Chief Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs in Jordan.
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet agreed to sign a host of pacts with Jordan. The pacts include manpower, mining, customs and cooperation in the field of health. An official statement released by the Union Cabinet read, “The agreement is also expected to facilitate trade and ensure efficient clearance of goods traded between the countries.”

The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesman Raveesh Kumar took to Twitter saying, “Historical links getting stronger! EAM @SushmaSwaraj calls on His Majesty @KingAbdullahII Ibn Al Hussein, King of #Jordan. Good conversation on strengthening ties across all sectors, specially in trade & investment, defence & security, tourism and people to people exchanges.” Later today, PM Modi will hold talks about boosting the India and Jordan relations.
