Today, the Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac is presenting the Pinarayi Vijayan Government’s second budget for the State. The State’s unemployment levels have been rising and the Government hopes to re-establish the job sector with an investment friendly budget.
The State’s economic review document which was tabled in the House shows the shocking number of unemployed citizens in the State. In 2017, 35,541 engineering graduates were looking for jobs, last year the number stood at 30,719. There are a total of 34.62 lakh general work seekers out of which 21.40 lakh are 10th pass and 3.58 lakh are 10th dropouts. In the same, 7.31 lakh are 12th pass and the remaining 16,000 are post graduates.
Some of the key features presented by Kerala’s Finance Minister:
1. The monetary aid for marriages will be increased from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000
2. For Life Housing scheme Rs. 2500 crores has been allocated.
3. To renovate bud schools Rs. 43 crores were announced.
4. To provide more computer labs a total of Rs. 300 crores will be used.
5. Schools in the State will be digitized with Rs. 33 crores.
6. A total of Rs. 200 crores is allotted for Kudumbashree.
7. The Budget also provides Rs. 1685 crores for public health services.
8. A package of Rs. 2000 crores will be allocated to all coastal areas after the devastation of Cyclone Ockhi.
9. An additional Rs. 150 crore will be used for sustainable green development in coastal areas.
10. A total of Rs. 584 crores is sanctioned for port development.
