On Wednesday, the Telangana Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao had good news for Hyderabad’s commuters. He announced that the launching of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) will happen in the last week of November.
Narendra Modi has been invited to inaugurate the operation of the Metro from Nagole to Secunderabad.
K.T. Rama Rao was addressing the media at the Secretariat and said, “This is the reason for closing Oliphanta bridge at Secunderabad for traffic now. There is a gap to connect Metro Rail to Secunderabad station at Oliphanta bridge which we want to complete in August. The balance works and railway safety certification formalities will be completed by October so that it will be ready for launch in November.”
Reports revealed that Prime Minister Modi will be in Hyderabad in November to also inaugurate the World IT Congress, Global Entrepreneurship Summit and Indian Science Congress.
KTR also added that the complete Metro Rail project will be completed by 2018.
This year the Telangana State Government extended the Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director, NVS Reddy services by one year.
This is the first time after the extension that the public is getting a bit of clarity as to when the Metro Rail will be completed.
Back in 2010, when it was Andhra Pradesh, the concession agreement that was signed said the project completion date would be in July 2017.
It was reported that the delay was due to land acquisition issues and then the deadline was extended.
To add to the problems, in 2014 the Telangana Government demanded the change of structure of two of three metro rails. They reported it was to save a few religious structures.
At present, the metro rail of 12 Kms from Miyapur to S.R. Nagar and 8 kms from Nagole to Mettuguda has been completed for months.
KTR ended his statement by informing the new deadline for the completion of the Metro as December 2018.
