Today, the voting for the Rajasthan byelection polls started at 8 A.M. The Election polls are for two Lok Sabha seats in Ajmer and Alwar and also the Assembly seat in Mandalgarh. A total of 11 candidates in Alwar, 8 in Mandalgarh and 23 in Ajmer are in the fray. There are 18.27 lakh registered voters in Alwar, 18.42 lakh in Ajmer and 2.31 lakh in Mandalgarh. It is said nearly 2 lakh voters in Ajmer declared they will vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
The number of polling booths set for each constituency is 1,987 in Alwar, 1,925 in Ajmer and 282 booths in Mandalgarh. For the first time, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs’) with photos of the candidates are being used for voting. This is being done to avoid confusion among voters about different candidates with the same names.
In Ajmer, 6,000 security personnel have been sent to ensure smooth polling. 5,000 security personnel have been sent to Alwar. Bypolls are being held today in West Bengal too with voting in Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency and Noapara assembly seat amid tight security. The counting of votes will take place on Thursday.
The Congress named Vivek Dhakad as its candidate for the Mandalgarh Assembly constituency, former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Raghu Sharma for the Ajmer Lok Sabha seat and Karan Singh Yadav for the Alwar Lok Sabha constituency.
The BJP named the Labour Minister Jaswant Singh Yadav and the former Union minister Sanwar Lal Jat’s son Ramswaroop Lamba for the Alwar and the Ajmer Lok Sabha seats respectively. The BJP candidate Shakti Singh Hada is contesting in the Mandalgarh Assembly constituency in Bhilwara district.
