The Budget Session in Parliament will begin today. It will be a full fledged session right before the upcoming 2019 General Elections. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar spoke to the media after an all party meeting and said the PM expressed that this session is important and the Government will take every suggestion given by the Opposition seriously.
The Opposition plans to question the ruling Government about the recent issues relating to the plight of traders and the alleged attack on the Constitutional Institutions. Congress Leader Pramod Tiwari said, “We want to raise these issues as they are important. The government should adopt a cooperative attitude and allow the opposition to raise these issues.”
This year’s Union Budget will be focused on small business, rural schemes and job creations. The Gross Domestic Growth of the Country for a year ending in March 2018 is predicted at 6.5%. This is the lowest in the past four years. The reason is the rollout of the Good and Services Tax last year and the Demonetization in November 2016.
The Budget Session will be divided in two parts the first will be held between the 29th of January and the 9th of February. During the first leg, the Government will present the Economic survey and the Union Budget. The Parliament will then go on a break and be back on the 5th of March to the 6th of April.
