Rajput Women Rally Ahead Of Padmaavat’s Release

On Sunday, the Rajput groups across India held rallies to ban the Hindi film Padmaavat ahead of its release on the 25th of January. Such actions from the Rajput groups are leading the Government to ponder about the security measures ahead of the movie’s release. Around 200 Rajput women rallied for Swabhimaan (self respect) holding swords. They further gave memorandums to ban the movie or give them permission to end their lives.

They marched under the banners of Jauhar Kshatrani Manch (a Rajput women’s group,) Shri Rajput Karni Sena (SRKS) (a Rajput caste group) and Jauhar Smriti Sansthan (a Rajput religious group.) The women gave Government officials memorandums addressed to the President, Prime Minister, Rajasthan Governor and the Chief Minister. The Sub divisional Officer of Chittorgarh, Suresh Kumar Khatic said, “They (Rajput women) gave us the memorandum seeking a countrywide ban on the film.”

The Rajasthan Government said a review petition will be filed in the Supreme Court against the top Court’s order today. The protesters alleged the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie hurt the sentiments of the Rajput community. The protesters further stated the movie Padmaavat distorts the history of the Rajput Queen Padmini. Bhansali denied these charges against him.
