On Sunday evening, passengers at the Egmore station in Chennai were witness to a heroic act. A man was in a hurry and tried to board a moving train, the Dadar Express.

As he jumped to catch the door handle his hand slipped. The man’s legs were stuck between the narrow gap and was unable to pull himself up.

RPF constable K. Shanmugham noticed the incident and ran to the man’s rescue. He struggled at first but managed to pull the man from getting crushed by the train.

A news channel interviewed the constable who said, . “The only thought I had at the time was to save him somehow.”

K. Shanmugham went on to say that he has helped many people in the past but this one came to light because of the CCTV footage.

He further said, “Nowadays, a lot of people reach the station at the last moment. They should come at least half an hour or an hour before so that such incidents don’t happen.”

The constable has been nominated for the Bravery Award and he also said, “Many officials called me and appreciated me for saving a life after the incident. It encourages me to do my job better.”

The identity of the man who was saved remains unknown as he boarded the very same train that stopped after the incident.
