President and Leader of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) Mayawati was enraged on Tuesday and threatened to resign from the Rajya Sabha.
Her reason behind wanting to resign was not being able to raise awareness in the House on the issue of cruelty towards Dalits.
Mayawati addressed the media outside the Parliament and questioned, “I have come to this House to be the voice of the Dalits and backwards — to raise their issues. But when I am not allowed to speak then why should I stay here.”
Ending her statement with, “That’s why I have decided to resign as a Rajya Sabha member today (Tuesday.”)
Referring to Bhim Rao Ambedkar who also resigned from the House for not being heard out regarding the Hindu Code Bill, Mayawati said, “I am his disciple so I am also resigning because I am also not being allowed to speak in the House.”
Mayawati was allotted three minutes to speak at the House. Her remarks on BJP ruled states growing casteism and capitalism created a ruckus in the House.
Union Minister, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Mayawati’s behavior was disrespectful and, “She must apologize.”
Due to the commotion created R.J. Kurien Deputy Chairman, adjourned the meeting till Noon.
Mayawati stormed out of the Parliament after saying, “I will resign right away. I will come back and give my resignation.”
