On Tuesday, M. Venkaiah Naidu, former Union Minister filed his nomination papers for the Vice President election.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Defense and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj proposed M. Venkaiah Naidu for Vice President.
To file his papers, Mr. Naidu was accompanied by BJP president, Amit Shah and Senior Leader Murli Manohar Joshi and other party legislators.
Mr. Naidu addressed the media after filing his papers and said, “I will uphold the dignity of the office of Vice President of India if elected,” Mr. Naidu said adding that he would look to strengthen the parliamentary democracy.”
On an emotional note Mr. Naidu said, “I wanted to see Mr. Modi come back to power in 2019 and after that I wanted to resign from active politics. But destiny has other plans for me.” Recalling his relationship with BJP and said, “I am no longer a member of the BJP or any political party now.”
On Monday, the BJP’s Parliamentary Board decided on Mr. Naidu as the party’s nominee for the Vice President of India.
The elections for Vice President will be conducted on 5th August.
The members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and the nominated members will have the permit to vote.
GopalKrishna Gandhi has been proposed by 18 opposition parties including Congress for Vice President.
The former West Bengal Governor Mr. Gandhi filed his nomination for Vice President in the midst of Senior Congress members including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Seniors from the remaining 17 parties were also present.
