Hyderabad: The Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao allocated Rs 10 crore for the celebrations of Bonalu festival in the twin cities. It seems the Telangana government has decided to celebrate the festival in a grand manner like never before. All the Mahankali temples in the city are gearing up for the state festival.
The festival will begin from July 19 at Golconda. On August 2 and 3, the festival will be celebrated at the Ujjaini Mahankali. On August 9 and 10, the festival will be celebrated in the old city and also at other temples across the city.
Mr. Rao has asked senior officials including police commissioner of Hyderabad P. Mahender Reddy, Commissioner of GHMC Somesh Kumar and chief secretary Rajiv Sharma to make arrangements for the festival. The Chief Minister constituted a five-member committee of ministers to oversee the arrangements.
The committee will be headed by Home Minsiter Nayani Narasimha Reddy and ministers T. Padma Rao, A. Indrakaran Reddy and Mohd. Mahmood Ali are part of it. The GHMC and department of endowments would jointly oversee the arrangements for the state festival. Mr. Rao ordered the GHMC to release Rs 5 crore and endowments department Rs 5 crore for the festivities.
A spokesman of Telangana government said that the Chief Minister instructed GHMC to ensure drinking water and other basic needs at all temples besides ensuring cleanliness during the festival.
