The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is all set to review the tariff rules, telephone numbering and operation of telecom companies. This is aimed at making the operations of telecom companies more transparent and easily accessible.

The TRAI chairman R.S. Sharma in a press meet said, “We will form a committee consisting of TRAI officers and telecom operators’ representative to suggest which are the provisions that have become obsolete and need to be changed. This includes tariff order, regulations, licensing and others.”

TRAI instructed the telecom companies to review main aspects and submit a report very soon. Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL Chairman, and Managing Director said that the regulatory intervention is mandatory in the area of infrastructure so as to reduce the cost of operations down and improve service quality.

The major areas that TRAI recommended to review are the existing telephone numbering plan, current structure of Universal Services Obligation Funs, internet based calling services, crowd sourcing of data for calculating service quality and also next generation spectrums.
