WhatsApp Adds Two-Step Verification in its Security Features

After a big scare in their security system last year, WhatsApp is all set to redeem their image or so it seems. The company already added an end to end encryption that doesn’t allow anyone apart from the user to read the messages. Now comes the news of another layer of security being added through the two step verification.

When you have the feature enabled, any attempt to verify your phone number on WhatsApp must be accompanied by the six digit pass code that you choose,WhatsApp said in a statement. This allows the users to have control over the security in case the account is tried to access remotely, without the six digit pass code.

So how to enable this added blanket of security? Simple. Just go to your application account, click on ‘Settings’, go to the ‘Account’ tab wherein you find the ‘Two-Step Verification’ and can enable it. Along with this, users are also provided with an option to enter their email IDs. This will help the customer disable the six digit pass code if he/she forgets it by any chance. Along with this, WhatsApp claims that its app will also ask users to re-enter their code periodically to help them remember it.

Further, the company statement added, “If your number is re-verified on WhatsApp after 30 days of last using WhatsApp, and without your pass code, your account will be deleted and a new one will be created upon successfully re-verifying,” Currently, though, WhatsApp‘s new feature can be deactivated directly from a phone without entering the pass code. This means that the security won’t be solid if a user’s phone is stolen. Nevertheless, the company is working on it and this is a step in the direction to secure the privacy of a customer. The new feature will be available to all 1.2 billion users across iPhone, Android and Windows.
