Amaravathi:  The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has initiated an investigation into VG Venkata Reddy, the former Managing Director of the Department of Mines, following allegations of his involvement in widespread irregularities related to sand, mineral, and mine exploitation during the Jagan government. Complaints have surfaced accusing Venkata Reddy of facilitating undue benefits to private companies, resulting in significant financial losses to the government.

The ACB, after obtaining permission under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, began probing Reddy’s alleged misconduct in various stages of sand mining, including sales, tenders, and contracts. The investigation also focuses on the issuance of a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to Jaypee Power Ventures despite an outstanding Rs. 800 crore owed to the government.

Venkata Reddy, who was suspended on the 1st of this month, has been elusive for the past two months, evading authorities even as they attempted to serve suspension notices at his residences. The ACB’s preliminary investigation has already uncovered key evidence, and further actions will be determined based on the ongoing inquiry. Notably, Venkata Reddy was scheduled to retire on the 31st of this month, but his suspension has prevented his retirement.
