Delhi: Senior Congress leader and AICC treasurer Ajay Maken has issued sharp criticism against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), reflecting on the consequences of Congress supporting AAP in the 2013 elections. Maken stated that the decision to back AAP for 40 days in 2013 weakened Congress in Delhi, calling it a mistake that still needs rectification.
Maken lambasted both the AAP and the BJP-led Central Government for their inability to tackle key issues in the national capital, such as worsening air pollution, law and order concerns, and deteriorating civic amenities. He accused AAP of failing to deliver on its promises to the people of Delhi, particularly regarding the Jan Lokpal initiative, which was a major campaign promise.
“Arvind Kejriwal came to power with the slogan of Jan Lokpal but failed to implement the anti-corruption ombudsman. They promised to turn Delhi into London but instead made it the most polluted city,” Maken remarked.
He further questioned why AAP, despite having a full-fledged government in Punjab, hasn’t implemented the Jan Lokpal there. Maken criticized AAP for blaming the Lieutenant Governor in Delhi, calling it an excuse to cover up governance failures.
